Boys with DolphinThe Yates family took a few days off and went to Corpus Christi Texas. As usual, Joelle our travel planner, found a great deal on a room. Only $69 a night and that included free hot breakfast buffet, free cookies, free fountain drinks 'till 10:00 pm, free hot snacks at 3:00 pm and 3 free cocktails per night. The latter sadly went unused. This great hotel was the Drury Inn on Lepard St. All the staff was pleasant and helpful. The rooms were clean, but a little small for all four of us.

ImageWe took the longer route to Corpus down by the coast from Victoria on. There wasn't really much to see except a large motorcycle made from tractor parts and a 2 minute ferry ride. The drive down Mustang Island was nice. It's good to see some beach without seawalls, houses, and hotels. This first night we didn't do too much except drive around and walk on the beach. Jacob managed to soak his shoes and sock in the surf.

The next morning we drove back to the island and had a great time at White Cap Beach. It was cool, cloudy and very few people there. The wave were nice and big. This beach is very different from Galveston. The sand is much more course and the beach drops pretty sharp into the water almost like a lake. I was going to fly our huge beach kite, but one of the boys used a spare for a sword months ago and lost it.

USS Lexington decked out for the 4thThat afternoon we went to the USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier. We all enjoyed exploring the ship. I wish they would put signs showing where you are. Once you go below deck you really have no idea where you are in relation to anything else. The place is a 3D maze. It was raining very hard when the ship closed so one of the volunteers shuttled us off the ship to our cars in a large van. That was very nice. Thanks!

ImageThe next day we went to the Texas State Aquarium an saw the fish and dolphins. The boys would have stayed and pet the rays all day.Image

By the last day everybody except Jacob was not feeling all that great. Probably all the extra food. We went to beach at Corpus Christ Bay which was much closer so we could have more time before we had to check out. We ran into the water and played a few minutes and then found we were surrounded by jelly fish. Every body out of the water! The boys were very disappointed. Mom and Dad not so much.

We cleaned up, packed up, and hit the road. On the way out we stopped at Kiko's and had a very good Mexican lunch. The place is huge and a little on the Mexican side as apposed to Tex-Mex. The menu said that their chicken is fresh so it may contain some bones. Does this mean they strangle them out back? Anyway it was good food.
